Extra Care
 
Extra care can sometimes be provided but generally with an increased cost:
  • Help with transfers (i.e., in and out of bed or chair)
  • Incontinent care
  • Exit monitoring for occasional episodes of wandering - generally a door alarm
  • Oxygen usage but no administration - Patients must be able to monitor their own equipment
  • Night time assistance
  • Colostomy - must be self care
  • Injections - must be self care
  • Accommodations for wheelchair dependent resident
  • Special diets beyond the standard
  • Transportation services
  • Care for the demanding resident of the difficult family
  • Complicated medication administration
  • An individualized activity program

Some of these procedures can be provided by an outside nursing service and are, in some cases, covered by Medi-Care part B.
